Farewells and hellos!

It’s all change at Tidal this summer as we say goodbye to our Coordinator, our chair steps down, and we welcome new people!

Bye Chris!

After three and a half years as Tidal’s Coordinator, we are saying farewell to Chris Johnston as he heads off for an adventure in New Zealand. Over his time at Tidal he worked tirelessly to campaign for global justice, transform the organisation and work towards a new vision of global justice activism in Leeds. The city will miss his passion and dedication. We wish him all the best for the future.

From everyone at Tidal: THANK YOU CHRIS!!

Thank you Matt!

Picture of Matt

The wonderful Matt Carmichael is stepping down as Chair of Tidal’s board of directors as a little baby is about to come into his world. He has done a tremendous job representing Tidal externally and making rousing speeches to inspire people into action. Matt’s work on the board has also been greatly appreciated, steering the group through a complex strategic thinking process and maintaining motivation throughout! Thank you Matt for all your hard work and thoughtful leadership, we are happy to have you still on the board!

From everyone at Tidal: THANK YOU MATT!!

Leeds Tidal introducing…

New Chair – Richard Whitmill

Richard has been active in Tidal for three years now, starting as a volunteer working on campaigns like No Leeds Bradford Airport and being part of the planning for The Wave Express. He joined the board last year. Richard works in the voluntary sector, keeping very busy with two jobs – at Leeds Voice and Leeds Christian Community Trust. He is very excited to get going with the new plan and be part of a new era of Tidal action!

New Co-ordinator – Laura McFarlane-Shopes

Coming to Leeds as a student, Laura got involved with as many campaigns as possible, running the Amnesty International and Students Against War student groups and being an active member of others, including People and Planet and Palestine Solidarity Group. Laura was elected to the student exec where she acted as Communications and Internal Affairs Officer and was further elected to chair the Ethical and Environmental Committee of NUS Services. This consolidated her interest and growing passion for environmental issues and got involved with Tidal’s Leeds Bradford Airport campaign. After spending a year in the French countryside looking after children and horses and campaigning against Frack Gas, Laura is delighted to be back in Leeds working for Tidal at such an exciting time. She is looking forward to meeting you all!
