No Leeds Bradford Airport Expansion

No Leeds Bradford Airport Expansion protestThe No Leeds Bradford Airport Expansion campaign was run by a coalition of Friends of the Earth, Leeds World Development Movement, Tidal and dozens of individual campaigners. A reaction to a planning application submitted by the airport in January 2009, the campaign ran up till the approval of the expansion in July 2009. Though the development went ahead, our campaigning delayed the building work by a year and important victories were won in increasing public transport to the airport and curbing the growth of the airport in future years. For those involved in the campaign, you can access the internal organising website here.

Stop Climate Chaos Leeds

iCount Rally, 2006Established in 2006 by Tidal, Stop Climate Chaos Leeds (SCCL) was a grassroots group campaigning on climate change in Leeds. SCCL’s activities included the Leeds Freeze (a flashmob in the city centre), a climate vigil on Briggate, supporting the Leeds premier of The Age of Stupid, and were the catalyst for dozens of contributions to the Leeds Climate Change Strategy consultation. In 2009 they merged with Tidal, and together they broadened their remit to encompass all global justice issues and became a support body to other Leeds activists.
