Protest against Israeli state-supported musician

Thursday, November 11th, 2010
Idan Raichel

From Leeds Palestine Solidarity Campaign: The Wardrobe are proceeding to host a performance by Idan Raichel which, according to flyers at the venue, is being promoted and organized by The Union of Jewish Students. Tickets are a heavily subsidised £5 and it is described as being part a “campus tour”!! However, publicity for the preceding day’s gig in London clearly shows the funding/endorsement logos of The Zionist Federation of Great Britain and Ireland, Israel Connect, Jewish Agency for Israel and the Israeli Ministry for Culture and Sport.

E.g. all organisations that are completely complicit in being supportive of Israel’s violations of international law in relation to the oppression of the Palestinian people. Thus protest action is merited, according to the definitive Palestinian Cultural & Academic Boycott Of Israel.

ACTION: Protest against Idan Raichel’s gig!

#1 Let The Wardrobe know of your objections to them holding the gig. events@thewardrobe.co.uk 0113 383 8800

#2 Protest outside the gig on Monday 29th November! Email leedspsc@googlemail.com for more info.

Join the Crude Awakening

Thursday, October 7th, 2010
The Crude Awakening

Floods in Pakistan, drought in Russia, huge glaciers breaking up in Greenland… Our climate system is rapidly sliding into crisis, as oil companies destroy people’s lives and the environment to keep sucking up their profits.

The failure of the UN COP15 process showed us – if there was ever any doubt – that government and industry can’t tackle climate change. It’s up to us and it’s time to up the ante. As a movement, our actions against coal and aviation have made a real difference. Now oil’s time is up.

ACTION: Join the Crude Awakening!

Radical activists are organising for a major direct action in London
on Saturday 16th October. Leeds people are mobilising to attend – contact
pandpleeds[@]googlemail.com for more information.

Together, on October 16, let’s give the oil industry a Crude Awakening. Meet in central London. Be ready to move, to HOLD A SPACE and to leave that space in a way that shows we’ve been there.

Be creative. Be prepared. Be there. See the Crude Awakening website for more information.

Take Back Parliament Demo

Sunday, May 9th, 2010
Demo for Democracy

This election campaign has seen repeated promises of “change” and a “new politics” from almost all politicians. But unless we make clear we are serious about the need for reform, the politicians will assume they can get back to the same old politics.

Millions of peoples’ votes counted for nothing this year due to first-past-the-post – this must be the last election under our broken system.

A large coalition of organisations are joining together under the banner of Take Parliament Back to call for change, and are running rallies across the country this Saturday.

ACTION: Demonstrate 12NOON – 1PM in
Millenium Square on Saturday 15th May!

You can register your attendance on the Take Back Parliament website OR on facebook.

Gather in Millennium Square outside the front of Leeds Civic Hall at 12pm. Wear purple – the traditional colour of campaigns for the suffrage who throughout the years have struggled to deepen democracy.

Tar Sands Wedding

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010
Tar Sand WeddingYou are cordially invited to celebrate the holy matrimony of BP and Climate Change!

BP is planning to extract oil from tar sands in Canada. It’s one of the most destructive and carbon-intensive processes for extracting oil in existence; it takes 3 to 5 times the CO2 to produce oil this way compared to standard methods, destroys the locations it is found, and leaves tailings ponds of toxic waste which are disastrous for local people and wildlife.

To ‘celebrate’ the marriage of BP and climate change, LUU People and Planet are organising a wedding-themed demonstration on Wednesday, 17 March at 3:30pm. The wedding party will take place in the forecourt of the BP garage on the Otley Road and there will be food and music and general merriment.

People will meet at 3:30 on the Parkinson Steps of the University of Leeds, then will head up to the garage.

You can join the facebook event for updates on the action, or you can get in touch direct at pandpleeds@googlemail.com to find out more.

Protest at Brimar Factory with Leeds PSC

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

Leeds Palestine Solidarity Campaign will protesting at Brimar factory Saturday 9th January, 11am in Manchester. Meet Gardeners Arms roundabout, Moston, and bring banners, and placards if you have any.

Target Brimar has organised 22 days of protest to commemorate not only those killed in Gaza, but those killed by UK/US forces in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere around the world. Brimar is a Manchester based company whose targeting display systems are used by UK, US and Israeli forces. Target Brimar aims to stop the company manufacturing devices for military use.

We hope that this will ensure that those who lost their lives in Gaza and elsewhere last year, remain in our minds, and that we remember the complicity in those deaths of our own government, military and arms industry. As citizens, we must bear some responsiblity to take action to stop further bombings and deaths.

For more information or if you have any questions or require any assistance, get in touch with leedspsc[@]gmail.com / 07909 178123.

Also, a car share to the event is possible, pick up from Leeds centre at 9:45AM. Contact the details above to get in on the action.
